The Blue Whale Alliance is a coalition of fishing organizations, coastal land owners, First Nations, community and environmental groups calling for a moratorium on exploring and drilling for oil in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.  The Gulf, surrounded by five provinces and Mi'kmaq territory, supports tens of thousands of coastal livelihoods, including fishing and tourism.  Called the most productive marine region in Canada, the Gulf is home to over 2000 marine species, including the blue whale, right whale and leatherback turtle - all endangered species.

After witnessing the catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, and the complete inability of industry and government to prevent an ecological disaster, we must act now to protect Canada’s Gulf.
